The principle of operation of a centrifugal pump

The main purpose of a centrifugal pump is to move liquid through the pipeline to which it is connected. This task is accomplished by creating pressure and head in the system.

In this case, various solutions can be used in pumping equipment to achieve a favorable result. In centrifugal units, a force is created that helps move liquid at the required speed per unit of time.

Design features

The main component of the design is the impeller. To make it rotate, torque is provided by the operation of the power unit. We are talking about using a rigid connection of the pump shaft and the impeller. The first one is connected to a similar element that is part of the engine.

The design is characterized by simplicity and reliability. This solution is often considered the most preferable when it is necessary to pump and transport various media in a liquid state. At the same time, the operating features include the duration of operation in the absence of water inside the housing part. Under such circumstances, the power unit and impeller rotate idle.

In this case, the liquid does not move, which provokes excessive heating of the end seals. If there is no water in the housing for a long time, then the risk of failure increases due to lack of lubrication and cooling. The latter are provided by the liquid that is pumped by the pumping equipment.

If you want to prevent rapid wear, then you need to ensure a stable supply of water to the housing. The suction pipe is responsible for pumping the liquid medium into the housing part. In this case, the vacuum is created by rotating the impeller. At the same time, increased pressure is formed at the outlet section of the pipeline. Due to this difference, the movement of liquid is ensured.

Monitoring the technical condition of the suction pipe is very important to ensure stable operation of the unit. If contamination or damage is detected, immediate maintenance is required to prevent a decrease in the efficiency of the pump.

How this system works

To understand the operating principle of a centrifugal pump, you must first understand that one or more impellers can be located inside the casing. Each of them must be rigidly fixed on the shaft. After the electric motor is activated, the following processes begin:

- Reduced pressure is provided on the suction pipe. Due to this, liquid enters the pump chamber.

- Centrifugal force is created. It appears due to the continuous rotation of the impellers. Thus, the transported liquid medium is thrown to the walls of the pumping chamber.

- The liquid moves to the outlet pipe. It is transported through specialized channels, the movement occurs due to momentum.

- After leaving the pumping equipment, the liquid continues to move along the pipeline that is connected to it.

Any model of a centrifugal pump purchased from UNITEK can be used to pump a variety of liquids. They do not necessarily have to have density indicators and other characteristics similar to water. The main requirement is technical and operational characteristics that should allow the equipment to function without failures in the process of pumping a liquid medium of a particular type.
